Nestling in a small bay, Emborios, the northernmost village of the island is a cluster of houses and small scale accommodation sheltered by towering mountains, and overlooked by the neighbouring islets of Telendos and Kalavros.
Ducks, geese, and chickens wander freely, and children play by the jetty, while the fishing boats and visiting yachts bob at anchor in the bay.

There is one mini market in the village (the opening times during low season are vague), and the greengrocers' van calls every day. There are no banks or exchange offices, so money needs to be changed at Myrties or Massouri.
The sand and shingle beach is fringed by tamarisk trees and has sun beds for hire. Other smaller, more secluded beaches are within a short walk.
Here, days are lazy, and evenings are spent in one of the five tavernas, making Emborios a true escape from modern day living.
